GIS for the Classroom Certificate
Geospatial technologies (GIS) bridge both STEM and STEAM. The GIS in the Classroom workshops are designed for any K-12 educator looking to incorporate quality hands-on problem-solving digital tools into their classroom whether they are teaching 4th grade history or 12th grade environmental science.
No prior experience with geographic information systems is required.
The workshops are designed to give educators a functional GIS skillset and confidence with the Esri ArcGIS products to get them on the fast-track to teaching with the technologies in their classroom. Emphasis is not on teaching the button clicks of GIS, but on using the GIS toolset as a way to analyze, capture, visualize, and communicate lessons and projects for student learning and engagement.
A certificate of completion is available to students who purchase and complete the GIS for the Classroom Bundle:
- The Geo Inquiry Process, Getting Started with GIS Tech
- GIS Mapping in the Field
- GIS Data Visualization
The certificate is not required. Each course can taken individually or per your level of interest and purchased for the full course fee of $200.
Courses are eligible for Graduate Credit
Graduate credit is available at $75 per credit hour, in addition to course fee. Participants could earn up to 3 graduate credits upon completion of all 3 GIS courses.
